“Everything in the world is not outside you,
-Rumi
Ask for whatever you want in yourself.”
In this project, I embarked on an exploration of my personal perspective on the native architecture of my homeland, Iran. My aim was to capture and convey the magnificence and influence of Islamic architectural spaces, both in Iran and across the broader Middle East region.
Growing up in a country renowned for its rich architectural heritage, I have always regarded myself as a small constituent of this grand tradition. Within these architectural spaces, I sought to connect with my roots, discover my origins, and explore the essence of my identity.
In these images, I delved into the human quest to find oneself amidst the vast expanse of prevailing spaces. The subjects in my photographs symbolically navigate a path that seeks to uncover both the origin and the culmination of this journey.
To visually articulate this concept, I employed the technique of double exposure, blending images of contemporary and Islamic architectural marvels. This juxtaposition aimed to evoke a sense of eminence and grandeur intrinsic to Islamic architecture, suggesting that a profound comprehension of architectural spaces can be attained through an appreciation of Islamic design principles.
